We have hundreds of fires in this country every day and some of them could have been prevented by having smoke detectors in your home. You will need to make sure that your insurance is in force. Also in some cases when you put these smoke detectors in your home, your policy could cost you a little less. If for no other reason then your own peace of mind these devices are a good thing to have. They will warn you of any fire dangers that might come up.

Smoke and fire detectors that you can hang in the rooms of your home will alert you when smoke starts billowing from anywhere and then you can use a fire extinguishers to get the fire out before it spreads. If your home is a fairly good size you might want to have more than extinguisher. As a fire could get started in any room of this house you will need to have one of these close. If you have a two of floors in your home, you should have a least one on each floor. They come in two different sizes small and large. It is a good idea to have a smoke detector and fire extinguisher in your garage.

If you are an older or disabled person and can not install these yourself, you should get a friend or family member to do the job for you. Let install them for you and ask them if they will come back every few months to check on them to make sure they are working properly. If they find one that is not doing what it is suppose to be doing they will simply change it. Changing the batteries is necessary for them to alert you properly. The ones that they install in your kitchen will probably have to changed more often than the rest. There are home monitoring services that will come and install electrical units for you that will detect not only smoke, but carbon monoxide and burglars as well.

If one or more of these devices were to go off and you can see the fire, grab your bags and get out of the house. If it goes off during the day and you can not see the fire, you might want to check the device first to see if it is working right by shutting it off. Wait a minute and then turn it back on. If this device starts its warning again, get out of the house and call the fire department. After they come and clear the home, then you can go back in. A false alarm is better than no alarm at all.
