Sri Lanka bowled out for lowest ODI total ever of their 43 all out against South Africa in the 1st ODI played at Boland Bank Park, Paarl, South Africa on Jan, 11. As Proteas won the 1st ODI with a huge margin of 258 runs and this is the biggest loss in terms of runs for Lankans.

South Africa 301 for 8, 50 Overs (Amla 112, Kallis 72, de Villiers 52, Malinga 5-54)

Sri Lanka 43 for 10, 20.1 Overs (Morkel 4-10, Tsotsobe 3-19)

SA won by 258 runs and go 1-0 up in 5match ODI series.

AB de Villiers the perfect start to his captaincy, their batsmen did exceedingly well to pile a massive total of 301 and their pacers never let them down shown what they are capable of by bundling out Sri Lankan team for 43 all out.

Sri Lanka suffered one of the biggest defeats in ODI history as they slumped to a devastating defeat against South Africans. Looking down to chase a difficult 302 to win the first of a five-match ODI series, Sri Lanka has just managed to score 43 runs and lost the game by 258 runs. Only one batsmen went past double figure, and Dilshan agreed that this match is the worst game of his career.

This was the fourth lowest total in ODI history, with only Zimbabwe has done these feet twice with 35 & 38 and Canada 36 posting lower totals, incidentally all of them against the Lankans. Sri Lankas 43 was also the biggest defeat by way of number of runs for a game between two Test-playing countries. But, South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 272 runs in 2010; however, Zimbabwe lost its Test playing recognition. Previously, Sri Lanka lowest score was 55 bowled out in 28.3 overs against West Indies played in Sharjah, on Dec 3rd, 1986.

Morne Morkel was the main destroyer as he began with a wicket in the very first over of the Sri Lankan innings. He went on to grab three more crucial wickets of Kumar Sangakkara, Angelo Mathews and Kosala Kulasekera. Kulasekera (19) was the only batsman to get into double-figures.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first and did 100 percent judgment batting, Hashim Amla scoring his 9th century, Jacques Kallis continued his form while AB de Villiers scored quick 52 runs and guided SA go past 300 run mark. It was Lasith Malinga five-wicket haul restricted South Africa from scoring plenty.

The 2nd ODI takes place on January 14th.
