Prostar football kits during its first 50 years
It was in 1899 when the gates for the company opened. Back then, Wakefield in West Yorkshire started to gamble on establishing a sock industry. Spinning mills like R.H. Barker and Son Ltd started this type of trade. This company was known to provide Leicester hosiery business with yarns and saw an opportunity to make their own socks under their very own "star" line.
Two years later, in 1901, Prostar's holding company was established the Star Knitting Company. Even during the First World War, Prostar continued to grow as a business. From the years 1914 to 1918, the plant was converted to provide H.M. Forces with the socks that they need. It was after 1918 when football, soccer and rugby players in the United Kingdom started giving cognisance to Prostar socks. Twenty-one years later, in 1939, military socks were produced for all sections of the armed forces including the navy, army and air forces.
The second half of the century-old Prostar football kits
In 1952, mountaineers gave due recognition to the efforts of Prostar. The Everest Team, under the leadership of Sir John Hunt ordered climbing socks from the company. Twenty-two years later, in 1974, the growing business venture was inevitable. From production of socks, the business expanded to the manufacture of shorts and jerseys thus leading to the production of Prostar football kits. Back then, there were already over 20 countries patronising the products of the team. Prostar became the trade name in marketing the company's football products worldwide.
When Barclay sponsored another climbing event to Mount Everest in 1976, Prostar was again considered for the production of climbing stocks. By this time, the mountaineering team was led by Chris Bennington. In 2000, the company launched its own set of football training gears. Since then, Prostar football kits included these apparels and accessories.
Whilst commemorating its centennial year in 2001, Prostar football kits were opened to popular football competitors from around the globe. The list included Wycombe Wanderers which were semi-finalists in the F.A. Cup. From then on, these two teams were inseparable. The year 2005 yet opened another privilege for the market of Prostar football kits when the company opened its own German subsidiary. This made the business see favourable market turnovers in Europe and Germany.
