Proper Use And Care Of Folding Tables

By:

Folding tables are not as expensive as most permanent tables, but they still represent a cash investment into the success of your business. In order to get the most out of your tables for the longest period of time, it is necessary to treat them right. Here are a few tips for their proper use and care.

1. Unfold the table carefully.
The first time you use the table, study it carefully with the written directions if possible. Unfold it in the manner suggested. If you are unfolding it without directions, the main thing to remember is to be careful not to pinch fingers. The second thing to be cognizant of is that joints that are not locked into place may collapse when weight is added to the tabletop.

2. Do not exceed the maximum load suggested.
Tables which fold up may be made as sturdy as possible, but they still have their limits. If possible, either read the label that came with the table, or go to the manufacturer's website to get the information. If you put too much weight on the table, the legs can bend, the top can warp or buckle or the entire table can completely collapse under the load.

3. Note the temperature of items placed on top.
Read the literature that comes with the table to find out the maximum temperature that the surface will safely withstand without damage. For example, a laminate top with a plastic shell might have temperature limits of approximately 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Hotter dishes may melt or scar the surface.

4. Use brakes properly.
Use the brakes of any rolling castors your folding tables might have correctly. Lock them into place when the table is set up and moved into the location where it will be used. Make sure the brakes are fit snugly into place or the table might roll while it is being used. Then, if you decide to move it, be certain that those same brakes are fully disengaged so that the table will roll freely and not turn over.

5. Keep up the finish of hardwood tables.
If your tables have hardwood tabletops, you will need to pay attention to the finish. Over the years, you might need to treat them with varnish or paint to keep the wood in good condition. In the meantime, keep them polished and repair scratches and scuffs.

6. Keep your tables dry.
Whether your tables are made of metal or wood, water can damage them. Even if they are made of plastic, excessive water can leech away the colors. The best solution is to keep them indoors in the first place.

7. Inspect your tables regularly.
Every so often, take a close look at your folding tables to make sure all the working parts are still functioning properly. Check that the hinges are intact and still strong. When you know your tables are fit for use, you will be able to use them with confidence.
