A proforma invoice is a detailed report of the policies that are used by a company mentioned in an invoice. This invoice is then sent to the buyers before any deal is finalized. One must not be mistaken here to consider it a legal document. This document is used as a quotation. It is to be remembered that this document is not the ultimate but only an overview of the charges applied by the buyer. By looking at this document the buyer at the other end can decide whether to make deal with this party or not. This decision is made by keeping many things in mind. Firstly, it is the rate that is asked by the sellers for the desired service or goods. After the rate is accepted it is time to look for other considerations like taxes and discounts. The final charge or cost of the product is mentioned clearly at the end of the invoice.

A buyer does not always consider the cost of the service or products but there are many more considerations to be made. They look into extra charges like transportation or packing of the goods. Most buyers when buying in bulk prefer not to pay for the packing charges. In such cases, it is better to discuss it with the other party as they can make some changes in order to make the deal final. All buyers however, do not consider discussing about such petty things from the service providers or the sellers and prefer to dismiss the proforma invoice instantly, at a glance.

Other than this, there are payment options, credit policies and delivery time period that are considered at the time of finalizing a deal with a buyer. Many service providers and sellers make it a point to mention it unofficially to the other party that they are ready to make necessary changes in order to finalize the deal. Mentioning this point may land you with more deals. This is because if the buyers do not like any of the terms mentioned in the document they are relieved to learn there are possibilities of some alterations.
