Water Damage . For this it is important to know your home better. Let us start our discussion from the roof of home & gradually we will carry our discussion to other parts of our house. During the rainy seasons or snowfall, the water / snow gets accumulated over the roof. As the result the roof gets weak. To keep up the strong foundation, it is essential for us to clear the water / snow on regular basis.
Next is the attic, crawl space of the house. There should be proper ventilation and check for stagnation of water at least once in a week. If there are water satins then immediately they should be dried.
Now we will talk about the basement area. A leak from roof, ceilings, and floors to basement can lead to a big disaster. Even high level of moisture would require an immediate attention. If you come across any sign or trace of water and its sources, repair it at the earliest. This is not all. Like a detective you need to monitor the surrounding soil as well. At times, we grow creepers or runners over the basement. As the result we keep watering the plants, water might get collected, and the roof of the basement might be damaged. If there is a slope, then watch out for the direction of the slope. It should be away from the house.
Beside these check out your bathroom space and kitchen for water leaks, clogging and any pipe damage. Further have a careful look at the appliances, like heater, water filter, washing machine, etc., for dripping water. In your bathroom if there is regular puddle of water near toilet bowl then call the plumber immediately.
