Do you like to cook or do you just have to cook a lot out of necessity? If so, you probably spend a lot of time in the kitchen whether you want to or not. Do you realize that all of this cooking could cause you to have water damage? When you cook many things at one time, it can put a lot of moisture on all of your kitchen surfaces. When you cook several things on high heat, moisture can build up pretty fast. This happens a lot in restaurants with all of the food that is being cooked on a daily basis. These kitchens are being used day and night continuously. Then you also have the steam off of all the food that is done and the dishes that are being washed by the automatic dishwashers.

Any time steam or heavy moisture is allowed to sit on your walls and other surfaces, the damage will settle in very quickly. Not only will this damage show up on the walls of a kitchen, but the moisture and the grease that has mixed in with it can land on the floors that you are walking on causing you or anyone in the kitchen to slip and fall. This could cause you severe damage to your body like a broken arm or leg. Many accidents do occur in the kitchen from cuts or burns and slipping on a slick floor is one more to add to the list. Use extreme caution when working in the kitchen so that none of these accidents happen to you.

When you are cooking at home and you find moisture on your walls, floors, or other surfaces, try turning the heat under your pans down a couple of notches from high. You can start the food on high and once it gets started heating, turn it down. This will help with the build up of all of this moisture. If the weather is nice outside, you might want to open up the windows or even the door to help with the removal of all of this moisture. The most important safeguard of to prevent excessive moisture in the kitchen and bathrooms is by using an exhaust fan. If your kitchen does no have one over your stove, you really need to have one installed.

Excessive moisture in any room can cause mold, damage to wood and paint, and just leaves an overall nasty residue on everything. Check all of the other rooms where you might have a moisture problem. Bathrooms, basements, attics, and laundry rooms are great places to look. Get in touch with your insurance company if you find any moisture damage to find out if they will help with repairing the damage.
