Preventing And Controlling Kitchen Fires

Kitchen fires, how can they happen? What can start them? Kitchen fires happen a lot all over and it can cost a lot in repair or remodeling. Fires can start by the stove, oven, and other kitchen cooking wear. Oils, grease, butter, and sprays can start a fire and it will flame up. You need to have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen at all times. This will help you control the damages that fire can cause. If a fire is caused on the stove, turn the burner off and pour salt or baking soda on it to put it out. Do not use it until it is cleaned. Do not pour water on it because that can cause it to spark or short out.

Electrical outlets can have shorts in them which can shoot out sparks or get the cords very hot. Any electrical outlets that with a short in it that sparks or shocks you, will need to have the wiring and outlet electrical box repaired or replaced. Check your electrical cords on your cooking appliances from time to time to spot wear or damage.

Never leave the room when cooking. This is very important because fires are caused when people are not watching what they are cooking. If cooking with oil, it is very important to keep an eye on it and do not have it on high too long. Oil that splatters or boils over is one of the most common accidents that cause kitchen fires. It can run down the sides of pans and on the burners which can flair up a fire and the flames can be big. The smallest kitchen fires can cause a home to burn down, so watch what you are doing. A lot of times people lose their live due to this or they get really badly injured.

If any kitchen the appliance is malfunctioning in any way, unplug them right immediately. Do not have anything hanging over the stove because it can get hot and cause it to burn. Put appliances somewhere so they will not get damaged, like getting wet or too close to the stove. Do not put extension cords on the counters when you are cooking. Too many wires can cause them to get hot and start fires. Do not spray anything near the stove or anything on it while it is on because that is one sure way to cause a fire in the kitchen. Have homeowner insurance on your house for fire damages, so if a kitchen fire happens you will covered for the damages.
