Prevent Foot Pain By Wearing Wide Shoes

By:

Every 3 out of 4 American Women can expect to suffer from foot pain or some other foot problem throughout their lives. A contributing factor to all these foot problems is the failure to wear wide shoes for the sake of fashion. Did you know that by wearing shoes that are too narrow or wearing high heels for long periods of time can lead to foot pain or possibly even knee or back injuries? Podiatrists know this and have provided solutions to avoid these abusive side effects.

Typically when asked, women will openly admit that stylish shoes make their feet hurt. Many recognize that by wearing stilettos with heels too high is a problem for them. But they continue to wear these types of shoes to be fashionable instead of practical. Actually, we can understand such thinking because we also admire the look and style of a beautiful pair of women's shoes. So what can we do to help alleviate the problem?

First, Stay away from the pointy toed shoes. Look for shoes with a wide toe box. This alone will prevent corns and calluses which form around your toes. Wide toed shoes will help with bunions. If you suffer from this problem, bunion shields are something you may want to consider.

Ideally the best thing a woman can do when shopping for trendy boots, sandals or shoes is to find one that fits your foot correctly from the moment you try it on. A good fit means a firm sole and a soft supple upper that feels comfortable. Did you know when purchasing footwear that you should try them on later in the day? After walking around most of the day your feet will naturally swell to a larger wider size. If they feel comfortable now then you can be sure you will have a good fit later.

Another solution to help with foot pain is to limit the amount of time you actually wear your high heels. Alternate your shoes periodically with a pair of quality flats or other wide shoe. By doing this you can still enjoy your stilettos without hurting yourself.

A third way to avoid potential problems with your feet is to consider the hosiery that you wear. Nylon traps your body heat causing excess perspiration which leads to unwanted athlete's foot. Even your dress boots can create the type of damp area around your foot leading to fungal infections. Avoid cheaper brands of nylon pantyhose. They tend to be more constrictive to women's feet when walking. When constricted too much, the toes can be pulled backwards and over time the whole process could produce hammertoes and ingrown toenails. Buy more expensive nylons in order to get a better fit and help protect your feet.

If a woman consistently shops for shoes that fit correctly, remembers to get wide widths and buys quality nylon pantyhose she will have taken 3 important steps in protecting her feet. You see, it is possible for women to care for their feet and still be seen wearing those stylish new shoes.
