Wearing the proper shoes is always important. Many people question the reasons why women account for more foot surgeries and problems than men ever have, but the fact is men generally do not squeeze there feet into ridiculous shoes. Wearing the improper shoes damages and disfigures ones feet a hundred percent of the time. As proof women account for about ninety percent of all foot surgeries and common bunion or hammer toe surgeries. Bunions are one of the most common and familiar foot problems. Like all other foot problems bunions usually affect women, and appear in women ten times more often than in men. Bunions are caused by the inflammation and thickening of the bursa and the abnormal bone composition and misalignment of the toe. Leading foot doctor say for most women bunions are usually cause by pointy-toe, high heeled shoes or shoes that are too small. Women most often develop bunions because improper shoes irritate the underlying cause of unstable flat feet. A bunion can be caused by arthritis, or by putting more strain on the inside of the foot when they run or walk making it more likely for a bunion to develop. A bunion is a swollen or red bony lump at the base of the big toe. Bunions are usually painful because the skin becomes dense and calloused from friction against the shoe. Many people who have bunions develop them on both toes. There are several treatments to alleviate bunion pain, but the only way to completely remove the bunion is through bunion surgery. During bunion surgery the bony growth is removed and the bones at the big toe are realigned. Medication to reduce the swelling such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen can reduce the swelling therefore reducing some of the pain. Leading Podiatrist Los Angeles say the best medicine for foot problems are prevention medicine and prevention can be done by wearing well-fitting shoes or felt pads that retain pressure off the painful area of the bunions. For relative foot problems to bunions like Hammertoes and other disfigurement problems one should try using a cold pack. If one must wear heels she should make sure that the heel is not rigid and narrow at the toes. One should try to avoid wearing heels for long periods of time. Avoiding narrow heels is best to prevent hammertoes and the need to have hammer toe surgery. Wearing the right but comfortable well-fitting shoe for the occasion is the only prevention in keeping all foot disfiguring illness away.
