Summer is a wonderful time of the year and in many regions it means time spent in the great outdoors. When we think of the summer months it conjures up thoughts of BBQ's, playtime at the pool or beach, time spent in the park, and of course, the fun fireworks that make up the Fourth of July. It is a wonderful time of year and yet one that can be one of the most deadly as well with many hazards lurking all about.

Preparing for the summer and the safety of everyone in our camp will make things safer and is the right time to brush up or learn new emergency skills that are available through a Red Cross First Aid Class. These classes can usually be easily found, because the dot the landscape across the nation in towns both large and small and will prepare you for a huge variety of emergencies. Proper CPR techniques and well as the Heimlich maneuver training and burn and shock treatment are just a few of the important training you will get.

These classes can teach anyone young or old what to do in case of an emergency and make for a bit of added security when you are spending time with friends and family during the summer months. Sure we would all like to think that we won't need this type of information and hopefully you won't but if you do it is a good idea to know that you have this in your bag of tricks.

There are several ways you can have a first aid bag of tricks handy at all times, either at home and or including one for each vehicle. You can find the pre-assembled ones at most any store large or small or you can get creative and build your own from scratch using a Tupperware container as the kit container. Finding everything you will need for the kit can easily be found at most any large chain discount store. Buy in bulk and you can have more than enough kits for every location and activity.

And while speaking of things that you will want to have with you a cell phone is a true necessity these days. Even if you don't wish to carry one with you all the time you can purchase a prepaid phone can keep in charged up in your first aid kit just in case you need to call 911. Of course, it is important to make sure that your cell phone has the correct SIM card in it for the locations that you travel to. All in all, take the time to prepare for a safer summer. Hopefully all your summertime events will end in smiles but it is good to know that if an emergency does arise that you are ready to handle it.
