Pray Without Ceasing . . . An Explanation

Pray Without Ceasing . . . An Explanation

By:

Along with many others, I've always wondered how we can carry out that Bible instruction.

Among other tentative explanations, I've heard that this means to carry the Lord with you always in your heart (awareness of His constant Presence with you as a born-again believer).

Others have taken it literally to mean that we should train ourselves to constantly be talking to the Lord silently, no matter where we are or what we're doing. (Personally, I don't think this is very practical, and I don't think the Lord meant it that way.)

What I believe that it means is to not stop believing for that for which we've asked.

I believe that it means that we should continue to trust the Lord through appearances, feelings, symptoms, or even facts. I say facts, because, although faith does not deny facts, it can change them.

In order to have that kind of faith and trust, we have to be unfaltering in our belief that, with God, all things are possible, and that He is not only able, but quite willing, to fulfill our requests, if they are not against His will.

Anything not specified as His will for us in the Bible would be those things that are good for us from His viewpoint. Conversely, anything not specified as being contrary to His will for us in the Bible would be those things that are not good for us from His viewpoint.

And through it all, we have to keep in mind that seemingly unanswered requests (even though we are certain they are in accordance with His will) may be delayed merely because the time is not right. (He may have to fulfill our request through someone else, and that someone else may have to have certain conditions occur in his life before the needed action can take place which will trigger fulfillment of our request.)

We simply must not cease to trust that "Father Knows Best"!
