Practicing To Rap Beats To Improve Your Rap Beats Style And Flow - Ask Why To Grow

By:

The only way to have the nicest flow is to practice over rap beats more than other people. Practice on the train, on the walk to school, or anywhere; just as long as you practice. Put on your headphones and listen to a rap beat and practice your flow to the radio. But the best way to practice is by spending the time and learning over which rap beats you can flow the nicest. Then the next step in that process is to learn why you can rap to certain beats over others.

In other words, practicing includes more that just repetition, you also have to ask the most important question: WHY?

The first step to discovering why a certain hip hop beat works for you and others don't is to search a variety of hip hop beats. It doesn't matter what style of rap beat you're into, whether you like old school rap beats, or dirty south beats, first find the style you work with best. Pick a few beats that you get immediately - beats that you feel right off the bat - and start with these.

By picking rap beats that you click with, you make it easy on yourself to improve that much more. All it takes is some time sampling to realize exactly what style of beat you work best with. Then once you found the style of beat you work best with, spend some time searching the category and sampling the different beats until you find a few rap beats that work with your unique style.

There are several reasons why a beat will click with your personal style, and while they are unique to each individual, the process for understating why is not.

When you first find the five or six rap beats that you kill over any other, its important first that you listen to those beats as often as possible and second that you not only practice rapping to them, but that when you listen to the beat you think about the qualities that make that rap beat perfect for your style.

This is the element of freestyling that people fall short on. When people find a few rap beats that they work with better than any other they don't usually spend the time to find out what it is about that beat that makes it so friendly to their style. But if you are going to improve then you have to understand this element of the music.

The answer may be as simple as that the timing of the rap beats fall in line with the timing of the way you like to rhyme, or that the variation in the hip hop beat coincides with a rhyme scheme you like best. Whatever the case, and even if you can't put it to words exactly, pay attention to what the beat is doing, and what parts are easiest for you to rap to and think about why. Just asking yourself "why" something is working will help you improve to different hip hop beats.
