Your home is your castle. Keep it safe from anything undesirable. Fortifying your home against any intruders is not an option, it is a necessity. Our home is our place of sanctuary and this is where we keep the most private of things and we deem as a place of safety. While others build panic rooms inside the home, here are some of the things we can do that may not be as costly and expensive:

- Purchase security equipment. Buy a sturdy and reliable front door handle with a lock. Getting this door knob is your first line of security and defense against intruders. Secondly, get a security alarm code system. Having these things activated while you are not at home is good. These days, there are security systems that are bio-metric as well, though having one with a push button code is worthy. Purchase one as well for the garage in the entrance to your home from the garage. Placing motion detector lighting systems are good deterrents against burglars.

- Keep numbers of hospitals and other important places near the phone. These are important numbers that should be ready to be dialed. If your phone can store numbers, then input them according to priority from your own cell phone and office phone numbers, to the hospital and other numbers as well. If you have children, remember to teach them to dial 911 in an emergency.

- Keep your homes safe from other intruders. This may not seem important but keeping your place rodent and mice free is essential for living a healthy life. Getting rid of mice if they are already there may require you to use lethal or non-lethal traps. There is a caveat of using non-lethal traps as they can look like play houses and toys which make it easily attractive to kids as well. If you can, try placing them away from the reach of children. Another option is to have your place exterminated especially if there is a large migration of mice or rats. More often than not, mice and rats reside in places that are damp and full of items where they can hide like in the garage. By organizing your house and ridding your clutter, you can minimize places for them to hide.

- When going off for long vacation, purchase time setting motions for lights, and call newspapers to temporarily stop delivery of your papers. If your place does not look vacated when you are away, you can prevent burglars and thieves from entering your house.
