Post Pregnancy Bra Tips

By:

Throughout a woman's life she is likely to experience many changes in the size and shape of her breasts and this is no more true than in the periods during and after pregnancy. After giving birth women who are breast feeding in particular will notice fluctuation in the size of their breasts and it is important to support them accordingly.

Because women who have given birth are likely to experience an increase in the size of their breasts in addition to size fluctuation they may find they need to invest in big cup bras. Immediately after birth it can be wise to invest in a few comfortable but supportive bras but avoid anything underwired at this point as you will find that the breast tissue is still expanding rapidly.

In the weeks when you and your baby return home from the hospital you are likely to be very busy and tired so it's essential to have a bra to wear, a bra that can be in the wash and a few spares - but don't go overboard on bra buying until you have settled slightly in terms of fluctuation. Never be tempted to squeeze into bras that are too small for you as during this time this can clog milk ducts and lead to infection. It is also important to make sure your breasts are supported correctly at this time as they are likely to weigh considerably more because of the presence of milk.

Size increase will not merely apply to your cup size either. Post pregnancy women may find their back width increases by a few inches - and the width of their bras are also like to fluctuate alongside cup size. To cater for this you can buy bras with adjustable hooks for the back. Always remember to follow retailer's sizing instructions to help you choose something which will not only fit you correctly but allow some flexibility. There are plenty of fashionable lingerie options out there for new mums, but ultimately your choice should be focussed by support and comfort so make sure you don't sacrifice either.
