Cool Antarctica, its not your typical day at the beach. This wonderland is quite the adventure; for some it can be a lifelong ambition to reach the Seventh Continent. Its one of the most unique places on earth, where nature rules. The scenery is breathtaking and is teeming with wildlife.

Daytime in Austral summer lasts 20 hours, think of how much you could see and do in that much time. In the winter time darkness can last up to 24 hours. Antarctica experiences this constant light and darkness during the year because the sun doesnt rise above or fall below the horizon respectively.

With the ease of travel these days, Antarctica is becoming more popular. You dont need a passport when you arrive because no one actually owns the continent. You would need a passport if you were stopping in other countries though.

There are no airports or resorts in Antarctica. Its made up of sheets of ice that are 1 miles deep. The continent is larger than the United States and Mexico combined. The easiest way to get there is by boat or small sea plane from Argentina.

In Argentina youll find many tours that take place during the summer which is December to March. Some offer day trips, so you can just go there and back in one day. Others are more extreme and go for weeks at a time, stopping at different ports on the way. There are no tours in the winter time because the nights are so long and the temperature can get below -90 degrees. There are no permanent residents in Antarctica only visitors.

Once you get to Antarctica take advantage of the long days. Your experienced tour guide will have you exploring the vast colonies of penguins, observe the great whales, watch hundreds of seals resting lazy on ice floors, and marvel at the extraordinary variety of shapes, sizes and colors of icebergs. Spend some time watching the numerous seabirds trail in the sky. Take pictures of the towering glaciers and dramatic cliffs that drop into the sea.

Its quite a privilege to visit this awe-inspiring continent and to experience the special magic that has lured explorers, adventurers and scientists for more than two centuries. Antarctica is truly larger than life.
