Plus Size Clothing Is The New Average Size

As the population of our planet 'enlarges', so do our clothing, making plus size clothing highly sought after. The average person in the United States today is ten to twenty pounds heavier than they were less than a century ago. Around the world the size issue is nearly as bad with Europeans gaining pounds each year. Obviously the clothing we wear has had to expand in order to fit us properly.

Plus size men's and women's clothing has become big business in the garment industry, and styles have become as fashionable as the smaller sizes. Previously large sized clothing, especially for women have consisted of oversized, bulky items like muu muu's and unglamorous t-shirts and jeans. Many women today work in office environments and need to wear dressy clothes that fit well even if they are somewhat over sized. The fashion industry finally realized they had tremendous market possibilities in the plus size range of women's attire and set about designing some dresses, blouses, skirts, and pant suits to compliment women of any size, whether they were at work at their office, or out for a night on the town.

Evening wear in the larger sizes (fourteen to fifty four) has become a priority in the clothing industry as the demand had increased over the past few decades. Not only has the population increased in size (weight) but also these women are out and about, whether they are a dynamic business woman or casual shopper at the local mall.

Men have long appreciated larger sized clothing and shoes but they primarily consisted of apparel with longer sleeves, pant legs, neck sizes, and included larger shoe sizes. With the expanding society comes need for wider and not just longer sizing. There are many stores and shops with plus size clothing in both men's as well as women's styles, designs, and these items are now sized to fit and look well for every situation or occasion.

There are over sixty different brands of plus sized women's attire in the United Kingdom, many of which are foreign manufactured. Australia has seen an enormous increase in demand for large sized clothing in recent years.

When we consider that fashion is an attitude and not merely a word that can be attributed to size, the industry made a good choice when plus sizes began getting the attention they deserved. In the past it was almost as if men and women who were over weight, chubby, large, obese, or whatever the nickname chosen, were being penalized because of their size.

Modern plus sizes consist of many choices and a wide variety not only in colours and materials, but style that says we matter too. Those who require larger sizes also wish to dress for comfort and maybe even to attract the opposite sex as well.

At last the fashion industry has realized they have a market to fill the needs for, and there is money to be found in the plus size clothing because the desire for them is already there.
