Can you believe that the invention of the plasma television was due to a group of scientists trying to design an improved computer monitor? This is the truth. If it wasn't for the computer industry, we would not have LCD and plasma televisions. People can give the computer credit for being directly and indirectly responsible for a lot of technological advances. It's not surprising that our society being able to enjoy television and computer viewing is a direct result of scientists who tirelessly seek new answers, and occasionally, try to fix a simple problem in their lives.

The evolution of television sets started in 1964 at the University of Illinois. At the time, a computer monitor was essentially just a basic television. It's imperative to understand that at the time, televisions were comprised of cathode ray tubes. In order to provide a correct display pattern, the televisions needed to constantly refresh the image. This was one of the biggest issues when using a television set as a computer monitor. It might have been alright for watching television programs but it was not good resolution for a computer. Within the year, and with much hard work, the very first plasma monitor was working.

The screen's resolution and its color are made up of millions of cells found in the plasma TVs of today. However, the very first plasma screen had only one cell. But it was still a move in the right direction. There was a delay, since Liquid Crystal Displays ended up being a better method for small screens and plasma technology was put on the waiting list.
