Planning A Home Gym-3 Top Tips

By:

Before you rush in your local sports equipment store or online to purchase your own gym equipment you need to do a little bit of forward planning.

Number one-Where to Locate Your Equipment

The first thing that you must decide upon is the amount of space that you can allocate your own gym. Remember that you probably would want to cater for aerobic exercise, some strength training and flexibility exercises. You will need to ensure that you are adequate space with proper ventilation, proper temperature and free of distractions from other family members or neighbours calling.

Number two-Flooring

Another factor to be considered is the quality of your flooring because if you are doing weight training you will need a good solid floor on which to put your weights between exercise. You may also want to consider exercise mats and mats on which to place your weights which will not be in your way when you are finished your exercise routine.

Number three-Adequate Space

If you are going to be doing aerobic exercises then you will need adequate space for stretching your arms out, lying on the ground, jumping up and down, space for a TV and DVD player and your favourite DVDs.

It is important to remember that in order to persist over the long-term with your exercise routine you need to be working out in a comfortable environment and one in which you look forward to entering. That is why it is critical to put a bit of forward planning into precisely where you want to locate your gym equipment. You will also need to consider how much you wish to spend and whether you are going to purchase for example an exercise bike, treadmill, elliptical trainer, weights bench and so on.

In summary when designing your gym you need to consider first what equipment you would like to purchase and how much space of your home you can afford to give to your home gym. You then need to ensure that your home gym area has climate control, adequate space, damp free, well lit and most importantly free from distractions.

Ideally you should try to ensure that when you are not using your home gym that you are not falling over your various pieces of exercise equipment and that is why it is ideal to be able to devote a separate part of your home or garage in which to design your own gym.
