Pitfalls With The Motivational Speaker Video

By:

Many meeting planners ask for a motivational speaker video before hiring a professional speaker to speak the their convention.A video is supposed to be a representation of a speakers style, substance and content. But it is only a preview. It sometimes doesn't do a speaker justice.

Alternately, with 5 to 10 minute speech snippets you may get the speakers best stuff and hire them and find out that's all there is. It's like a movie, sometimes you watch the preview, decide to see the movie and realize you shouldn't have bothered. The preview contained the only good parts of the movie.

My biggest pet peeve with a motivational speaker video is all the music, flash, testimonials, tv interviews that can be padded into the video. We preview a video to see the speaker speak. To see if the style, substance and content is relevant to the group. If half of the video is testimonial and photos, it is a waste of time.

Some motivational speakers spend tens of thousands of dollars creating a professional demo video. While others just post motivational speeches of themselves on Utube. You shouldn't hire a motivational speaker based on how nice their video is however sometimes it's hard not to because the range in quality is so drastic.

Some videos are slow and hard to download, so you may discount them all together.

Many speakers call themselves the best motivational speaker ever and yet their video is awful. Anyone who calls themselves the best ever, I would ask, Says Who?

The common question to consider for a motivational speaker, is it the message or the messenger that makes it inspiring? Truth is, everything has been said before, it is the way the message is crafted and the style it is communicated in that matters. For a speaker to motivate, it has to be a compelling message, catered to the audience with fantastic delivery.

In a motivational speaker video, you don't get the whole message and only snippets of the speakers style. You get absolutely no idea of customization because your conference will be different than the one in the video.

A motivational speaker video may capture a good point but in the actual motivational speech, the point is muted or doesn't add to the message.
Some videos have a lot of testimonial etc at the beginning and they lose the interest of the convention planning committee.

Some meeting planners hire a motivational speaker because their video is short but keeps there interest and than they are not the right choice for their convention. A speaker sets the stage for the whole convention and if they fail, it can have a bad impact on the entire event.

A motivational speakers video is designed to get the speaker bookings. Your event is designed to engage, inspire and educate from a short video can you tell if this speaker will accomplish that?

Many motivational speaker videos just aren't that good. They take a long time to make a point, are vaguely inspiring and honestly I don't care to hear another story about some random embarrassing moment at a coffee shop. Unless you have a really good message and your great at delivering it, a motivational speaker video won't help.
