Pirate Costumes - The Latest Costume Party Disguise

With the rise in films regarding pirates, it is no surprise that one of the most popular fancy dress outfits are pirate costumes. They suit any age range from very young children right through to older people. They can be simple to make and look very good once you have added all the accessories and other bits that go with them.

You could team the old cut off black trousers with a white shirt half tucked in with waistcoat over this if need be. Male pirate outfits would look good with stripey or white long socks and a pair of very pointy boots or shoes. If you have a bandana then use this but if not you can make one from an old piece of fabric.

For little girls you could use an old dressing up skirt or dress that has a jagged edge or is cut on a bias which will give the same effect. Nowadays you can buy handkerchief skirts which are nice and floaty. Pirates notoriously looked dirty and unwashed so make good use of face paints which are freely available to buy.

The black paint or dark brown can be smeared around for an authentic pirate look. For adults you can adopt the same type of costume as for children, just use the same principles when it comes to finding old clothes to wear. If you don't have old clothes, all you would need to buy would be a pair of black cotton trousers, a baggy white shirt, a waistcoat is optional, most people have these in their wardrobes.

For adult women a costume could consist of a jagged edge or a skirt cut on the bias, in shiny red fabric or black if you prefer the all black look. A bustier type top would go with this or a well fitting vest top. For accessories you could improvise and see if you could find a toy stuffed parrot to sit on your shoulder!

So as you can see there are plenty of options to look at when trying to put together pirate costumes. Whether you decide to buy one from new or you find clothes or borrow them from others to complete your look, it is a very easy costume to put together for very little money, and one that you can make look really realistic.
