Picking A Neighborhood To Suit Your Unique Needs And Interests

By:

Are you interested in living in a neighborhood that meets your specific interests, lifestyle or needs? While there are certainly several all-purpose neighborhoods available to select from, there are also some unique neighborhood options that are well suited to those with specific interests. If you are one of those people, one of these neighborhood types might be just what you are looking for.

Golf

If you love to golf, living in a golf community such a Greenbrier in New Bern, North Carolina or Hideout Canyon in Park City, Utah, may be just right for you. Golf communities tend to feature condos and single family homes in a contemporary style, but the residents tend to be quite mixed. In fact, it is not unusual to see families with young children living next to retirees in golf communities. Of course, there are also plenty of golf fanatics living in these communities, as this is typically the greatest draw to living in this type of neighborhood. It should be noted, however, that these neighborhoods usually do feature a number of other attractive amenities along with great views, making it a worthwhile option for even those who aren't great fans of golf.

Retirement

If you are ready to retire and to live out a life of leisure, moving to a retirement neighborhood such as Palm Beach in Florida or Palm Springs in California, may be the right move for you. Retirement communities, which are generally located in the sunbelt as well as in coastal cities, feature small, low maintenance condos and homes along with plenty of amenities. With ample organized social events and other activities, there is plenty to keep you busy within a retirement community. Of course, if you are young or have children, living in one of these neighborhoods probably isn't a good choice for you.

Pedestrian

A growing trend among newly constructed neighborhoods is to make it pedestrian-friendly, such as Capitol Hill in Seattle, Wicker Park in Chicago and Beacon Hill in Boston. If you enjoy walking or if you want to live in a community where everything you need is all within walking distance, living in a pedestrian neighborhood may be just what you are looking for. Even better, since pedestrian neighborhoods tend to be located within small pockets in major metro areas, you are still within close distance to all of the amenities that the city has to offer. Homes in pedestrian neighborhoods tend to be lofts located above businesses or cozy apartments and condos, making these neighborhoods particularly attractive to single professionals. As might be expected, one of the drawbacks to living in this type of neighborhood is the fact that there is little to no parking available. But, of course, you shouldn't have much need for parking. Since everything is within walking distance, the noise and density of the neighborhood may be off-putting as well.
