The 106 has wide-ranging appeal but there are a lot of abused examples about, largely because theyre so popular with young drivers.
The best supermini of the early 1990s, the Peugeot 106 was developed from the Citron AX and shares much with the Saxo. It offered robust construction, excellent ride and refinement for its time, plus superb fuel economy and lots of driver satisfaction. A wide choice of cars at affordable prices means it's near the top of the used supermini league.
The Peugeot 106 was made between 1991 and 2003, and it was considered to be one of the best superminis of the 1990s. Thrashed and abused 106s outnumber superb examples by quite a margin, so you have to tread carefully but if you want an urban runabout and youre on a tiny budget, this could be just the ticket.
The Peugeot 106 was also sold with Citroen badges, as the Saxo. The cars werent identical, but as Peugeot and Citroen are both part of the PSA Group, they decided to offer their own versions of the car. However, while the Citroen wasnt offered with diesel power, the 106 was.
