Ask them to talk to you a bit louder but do not take it to the next level as if you are nearly a total deaf.

Educating yourself on the possible techniques in coping with this condition can help you deal with it a bit easier. There may be no definite cure as of the moment, but knowing how to alleviate the pain can make your situation a bit manageable and easy.
