Paying For Pregnancy Without Major Medical Insurance

By:

Millions of Americans lack any sort of health insurance plan. Millions more have some sort of health benefit, but it does not include for comprehensive coverage for some medical needs like maternity care. If you, or somebody you care about, is pregnant, you should know that proper maternity care is critical to the health of the mother and the baby!

If you, or a friend, is pregnant without heath insurance benefits, please do not panic. You should know that you can find resources to help you. Please take a moment to review these tips about how to afford maternity without health insurance.

The best time to make sure you have maternity benefits is, of course, before you get pregnant. However, that does not always happen in real life. This is a time to concentrate on solutions.

Low Income Maternity Care

There are state and federal health programs that you may qualify for. Medicaid is a government health plan for people with low incomes. CHIPS is the children's heath insurance program for families with low to moderate income. CHIPS covers children, and it also covers pregnant mothers. Did you lose your insurance because you got fired from your job? If so, you should look into these benefits.

These are federally based health plans, but they work with the state government. You can search for Medicaid or CHIPS in your state to find out more information, fill out an application, and find contact information. Some people do not like the idea of accepting government help. In my opinion, the health of the mother and baby should be considered first! If they are both healthy, there will be plenty of time to pay taxes to pay the government back.

Pregnancy Help For Middle to Upper Income People

What if you make to much money to qualify for CHIPS or Medicaid? Look for local doctors or hospitals that have a pregnancy payment plan. If you take out a payment plan, you can make monthly payments just like you would on any other loan. You may also have a county hospital system with a fee system that is based upon income. You will still pay for care, but the payments should be affordable for you.

You may still be able to get maternity health insurance if you, or a spouse, gets a job with group benefits. This may not be that easy, and some group medical plans have a waiting period after employment starts.

You may also turn to your church or temple. Your church may even have a program for you. One idea is to schedule a meeting with one of your religious leaders. Clergy should be trained to provide help in situations like this.

There are also charities and foundations which provide grants or low interest loans to pregnant women so they can pay medical bills. These may be local or national. You can search on the web for groups that can help you.

Makes sure you get the help you need!

Take a few minutes to find ways to pay for proper health care during your pregnancy. If you are planning a future pregnancy, think about how you can get insured so you will be well covered when the time comes!
