There is a great advantage to using the pay per click (PPC or CPC) advertising method for banner ads, we can test a website to see if that audience will respond without spending money if there is no response. Testing new products and services with this advertising model gives us an advantage if we are not sure if the market will accept what we have to offer. This type of advertising is affordable for just about any person.

Just placing banner ads up on high-traffic websites in most cases will not work if we do not know what we are doing. The advertising prices can outstrip what we are receiving in payouts. But if you have the skills you can win most of the time and will make a profit. There is BIG money in this field and FAST also.

If you were to do some asking around to affiliate managers of who makes the most money in their networks, in most cases it is pay per click advertisers. Even though ranking in the engines is incredibly powerful, pay per click is becoming at least as much or more powerful.

We still need to do our demographics and research to find out who is visiting the website even if it is only pay if they click. We can get a lot of curiosity clicks with no action responses or sales, if miss targeting. We can find out what interests they have, what their income is likely to be, age, and gender, there are other variables we are going to have to take into consideration.

We also need to study landing pages before we place our offer on that site. We have to know if a landing page is going to fit the demographics of the site that they come from in a certain manner.

Landing pages must be tested. Even if as an affiliate we must try to test various landing pages. As an affiliate they may only offer one landing page, there is the possibility to build another landing page, or have it built, and let them approve it. we can do it this way to save time unless waiting for them to build another one is acceptable, which they may or may not be willing to do.

Getting these skill levels up to be able to spot good landing pages and offers is one of the keys to success with this type of advertising. Getting to the point of being able to analyze a good landing page, a good website to advertise on, and a good banner that is all going to match the demographics, including checking product pricing with delivery, customer service being the most important for sales (CPA has other factors), and a decent payout or fitting for the market.

We do not want to waste time placing ads with a small number of clicks or curiosity clicks and very few or no buyers or actions for CPA. Research can go very fast with just a few minutes if you know how to do it and have practiced it. It is simply a time and money saver to know if the offers are going to appeal to the customer base even before testing.

Working with the affiliate manager or the company directly to get a decent banner for the website may be required. This banner must be close to what the website looks like. The closer the banner is to looking like content that belongs on the website the better in most cases.

In most cases it is not advantageous to create an opposite looking banner to the website even though it will get attention. Yes, it will get attention but then the visitor will turn away from it. This is a very common mistake with banner advertisements, it is the opposite of the way we may think. Making an outrageous opposite banner in many cases does not work but the background of the banner and the typesetting being similar to what the website has is usually far more successful.

Wild flashing banners can be effective depending on the site. This is usually on entertainment type of sites such as video or music or some other site with related content. This brings about a different mindset of people entertaining themselves and they click these banners to see more.

There is more training that is required than what can be done in this article. Many banner advertisers fail because they do not have the proper training.
