Patong Hotels-rooms For Adventurers

The North Face of the Phuket Mountains-room rate hike?
Having stayed at a Patong hotel recently, and hearing about a recent hiking trip of one fellow traveller, it made me realize how little people (tourists) know about the island here. Here is a brief excerpt from his hike.
[Its a lot cooler now at this altitude 480M or so, continued walking North from here, my GPS read Y3, there were 3 trails to choose from and tried all 3 at first until finally deciding one that was heading West. Then I reached a spot where I could see that the next hill was completely thick with brush covering everything. I tried 3 more routes but all were too thick to pass. I then spent the next hour looking for a way through, my work rate paid off and I finally found a small cut in the East side and began to follow. Then it all ended (the trail) and all I knew was that I would have to go back and head east to another trail (that was possible) except for a large gully in between. As I walked down I notice a large fallen down tree spanning the gulley and thought I could walk across that. As I carefully stepped slowly across, tight-rope style, it suddenly dawned on me that it had been raining the day before and this log was very slippery. Halfway across I fell 2 meters and landed on my back into water. I lay there dazed all the while thinking why arent I staying at some hotel, enjoying the hotel pool or hotel restaurant in somewhere like Patong. Then I remembered. When Im on the trail theres no other place Id rather be, of course bushwhacking is hard, real hard. But when I find good trails that take me through jungles and rubber plantations to some of the most amazing views, I tell myself its all worth it. All I need to do now is wait until someone starts building new trails, at any rates if they do, it would be amazing for Phuket, Patong. Many other tourists would get out of their hotel rooms and go hiking too. It baffles me sometimes when I think of tourists just staying in hotel rooms and at Patong restaurants and not seeing the real Thailand. Any way back to the story]
Having heard this story made me feel like getting out there and doing some real hiking too. Though I somehow felt quite inadequate really, me with my Hawaiian shirt and floppy sandals, sitting at the hotel bar by the poolside, and this guy, Indiana Jones telling me his story of dare and danger. But I suppose at the end of the day, we cant all be adventurers, some of us can only survive on the luxury of staying in our hotel rooms in Patong, the views; tremendous, the service; pretty good, the rates; reasonable. What more can you ask for when it comes to a holiday in the sun. A final note from my Indiana friend
[Of course my wife thinks Im absolutely nuts, I love the adventure, the hike, but I always come back covered with scratches and bruises and dehydrated].
Rather you me mate, rather you me!
