Party Invitations - How To Inform Your Guests And Ensure A Flawless Event

By:

The importance of party invitations cannot be denied. You want your guests to actually show up for your party, don't you? Well, besides the obvious fact that invitations alert your potential guests to the event that you are planning, there are other functions that they can serve. Invitations are vehicles which may be used to convey all kinds of information to your guests so that your party can flow as smoothly as possible.

For instance, a standard party invitation should include specific information such as the place the event is taking place, the exact time that you would like your guests to start arriving, and of course, the date that the party is happening. Be sure to include directions to the location for your guests who may not be familiar with the venue. Also, it is a good idea to anticipate that some guests will be early and others will be late. Try not to begin any important activities until at least thirty minutes after the scheduled starting time. Also, be sure to plan for entertaining those guests who are the type who show up early everywhere they go. You can do this by setting out party trays and starting up the music a good bit before your guests are expected to arrive.

You probably already knew that time, date, and place, should be included in any party invitation, but did you know that you can also use them to hint at certain expectations that you have for your guests? Informing your guests as to what, if anything, they should bring to the party is one thing that you can include in an invitation so that they know what is expected of them. Further, you may want to tell your guests what kind of attire will be appropriate to wear to your party, such as formal or informal. You can also include a guest list on the invitation if it is a smaller dinner party. This last suggestion is a custom at French dinner parties; the point is that the guests will already feel comfortable when they arrive because they know whose company they will be in throughout the night.

The invitation should also include a request for an R.S.V.P. This is a standard request that your guests will be expecting, so don't feel as if you are being pushy. In the past, more formal invitations included an R.S.V.P card that the guest could write their answer on and then mail back. This is an antiquated method that you should not ask your guests to follow. Instead, come up with an easy way that your guests can get back to you with their answer. Your guests no doubt all have hectic work and social lives, let them email or call you with their responses to save them time.

Think of your party invitations as little reports about your party. You don't want to leave out vital information that will confuse your guests or upset the flow of your party. Including the above information on your invitations will ensure that your guests are comfortable and that they know what is expected of them. This leaves everyone free to enjoy themselves and celebrate.
