What exactly is pallet racking? Well, suffice to say or to put it simply; it's technically a form of storage system for material handling. Logically, the storage container of course, is pallets. There are numerous variations in how to initiate pallet racking. In all of these variations, everything is allowed for the storage of palletized materials in multiple levels and in several rows. All of these mentioned types of pallet racking actually increase density storage. The higher the density is, the more expensive it becomes. The less the density is, the more cost efficient it is. Generally, the most cost efficient and affordable type of pallet racking is the selective rack type. The reason why it's so efficient when expenses are to be considered is the fact that it's only for $50 - $70 per position. The most expensive type of positioning in terms of pallet racking is the gravity flow pallet rack. This type of racking can cost up to as much as $250 - $400 per position.

One very integral and significant part of practically any pallet rack system is the forklift truck. In more ways than one, they are usually required to lift and stack the loaded pallets on the racks before going straight into storage. Pallet racking is so important in everyday life as far as modern industrialization is concerned that it's virtually everywhere. It may be prevalent to say that pallet racks are a popular and necessary item.

Pallet racking is definitely a required element and factor in terms of modern warehousing facilities. And obviously, it's not just limited to that. It is also required in most of the manufacturing facilities nowadays. Apart from that, many of the retail parks and shopping centres need this to store various goods. And obviously, of course; the pallet racking system is also a must in other distribution facilities and storage facilities.

Like what was mentioned early on, selective pallet racking is the most common type of pallet racking. It typically and normally comes in two configurations. The first one is the clipped-in configuration or also known as the rolled form and the second one is structurally bolted configuration. The first one, which was known as the rolled form, is the one that is commonly manufactured and usually, they do it in the "teardrop" style. The pallets are placed on to huge metal beams that are being held and kept together by highly efficient mounting clips. The term teardrop generally originated from the fact that when the columns are being held out upright, they are shaped like teardrops. The advantage with this setup is the fact that it can be easily adjusted into several different other positions because of the workability and advantage being given by having the clips easily moved because of the teardrop configuration.

There is a huge variety of pallet racking products but as mentioned previously; selective racking is the one that's most commonly used and also the one that is most industrially-feasible.
