Many people who are using websites to promote their business are searching for the fastest way to get the highest page rank possible. In some ways it's a distant and nearly unobtainable goal for internet marketers. Maybe you already know this, but Google assigns a page rank number to a web page that indicates how high that page will be placed in search results. The algorithm is secret. But it's important to understand that the page rank number is not the only factor in ranking search results.

To see the page rank of a web page you can use a special web site with page rankings database, where you can type in the url of a page and get it's current rank. Another option would be using a web browser that displays page ranks automatically as you browse the web. However, the rank value you see is almost never up to date as it reflects the last time the ranking algorithm was updated, thus it sometimes has a lag of several months. So, in many cases, the page rank used by Google is not an accurate representation of the actual standing of a web page.

For all of these problems, page rank is still the most visible way of assessing Google's way of ranking its search results. I did say page rank, not site rank; each page on each website largely stands alone, although there may be a reputation effect that influences the rank of all pages on one site. It is known that the rank of any page is influenced by the rank of all pages on the same site that link to that page.

Page rank is very similar to a popularity contest on the internet, and it is possible to increase your own page rank. It is maintained that page rank is based on the popularity of the pages that link to you and on the number of links to your page. By having more links that are popular and a high number of links on your site, you can increase your own page rank rapidly. Basically meaning that, by having already high ranking pages and more pages linked to your site will, the page rank of your own page will increase dramatically.

To increase your page rank rapidly, you will have to get as much quality content-related links to your page as possible. It's a simple as that. There are many ways of achieving it, for instance, you can post on forums and blogs, use reciprocal linking with other sites, search engine and web marketing, publish your own press releases, etc.
