Going on a cruise to watch whales can be very fun for the entire family. That's why you should ensure that nothing takes away the fun in the experience. And one way of doing so is by making sure you pack the right things for it.

Items that will protect you from the harmful UV rays of the sun are a must. This is especially true for your kids, who are likely to stay out on the deck to enjoy the scenery. Apply sun block some 30 minutes before the trip. But do bring it with you for reapplication. Bring wide brimmed hats to protect your face, and sun glasses to protect your eyes.

It can get very chilly in the ocean than on land. Bring extra layer of clothing for everyone, and even a blanket. If taking the whale-watching tour during colder months, it may be necessary to pack jackets and even gloves. Speaking of jackets, take waterproof ones. They will protect everyone from potentially getting wet.

Of course never go out there without taking with you your trusted digital camera. Most especially, never go out there without fully charging the batteries first! Be familiar with as much features of your digital camera as you can. This is necessary if you wish to take snapshots with picture-perfect quality each time.

It may take some time for the boat to reach where the whales are. You, and especially your kids, can get bored on the way there. That's why it's also important to pack anything small for everyone's entertainment or diversion. It may be anything such as magazines, books, card games and others.

Some cruises may have onboard snacks, while some may not. Regardless the case, bring your own snacks. Besides, packing your own ensures that your entire family will like it. But do bring something that's easy on the tummy, such as crackers, cookies, trail mix and the likes. And don't forget to bring drinking water for everyone.
