Packing Tips For Your Winter Ski-ing Trip

By:

If you are planning a winter ski trip in the coming months there will be an extensive list of things that you need to pack. It is likely that you will be travelling by plane and this can create further worry with the stringent baggage allowance limits imposed by airlines.

The obvious items there are certain items that are essential for a ski holiday, of which your skis or snowboard are naturally a priority. This type of equipment can be easily booked as excess baggage through your airline, usually classed as sports equipment. Other essential items are your ski or board boots and suitable waterproof clothing as well as a helmet, gloves and goggles. If you are lucky enough to be spending most or all of the winter season in a resort then you will need to bring spare equipment, jackets and trousers in case they should get damaged or simply need a clean.

Warm clothing heading to a snow-covered part of the world means you will need to prepare with plenty of warm clothing. It is a good idea to invest in some thermal base layers, which will keep you warm while affording some breathability during an active sport. There is a wide choice of thermal base layers available which are made from man-made materials such as fleece and polyester or natural merino wool known for its moisture repellent and quick-drying properties. Other essential items of warm clothing include ski socks, gloves, a good hat, warm jumpers and trousers.

Suitable footwear in addition to your ski or snowboard boots you will need to bring suitable footwear for the snowy conditions. Waterproof boots are the best solution although you should avoid wellingtons unless they are appropriately lined as these will not keep your feet warm. In addition, you will need some lighter footwear or slippers to wear indoors at the chalet.

Personal items you may find that in addition to all your personal items such as shampoo and deodorant you need to pack extra first aid items in case of an emergency. It is also a good idea to bring sun cream and sunglasses as the sun's rays are magnified when they reflect off the snow. Even your lips may burn so look for a lip balm which offers sun protection. It is a good idea to bring a small day rucksack for carrying some of these items as well as food and water, and a screwdriver in case you need to alter your bindings.
