Most of the computer users compress their files using WinZip to transfer their data (through a single file (a Zip file)) easily over the Internet. But, there is a huge risk of corruption of the Zip file when it is downloaded at the other end by some user, via internet. This may happen due to some problems, interruptions or hiccups (Packet loss) in the internet connection. And a corrupt Zip file cannot sustain the extraction process and hence the threat of loss hovers over your data. However, if you can download the file again, the problem might be solved. Though, if you do not get the expected results, you have to
repair zip file using a third-party tool.
Suppose, you download a Zip file from the Internet, but it does not get extracted and instead prompts some errors stating that the file is invalid or corrupt.
Obviously, this situations would leave you scratching your head and wondering about the cause of the problem? That will give rise to a lot of questions: Is this file actually corrupt? Will I ever be able to extract this file?
Let us answer your queries.
If a zip file is downloaded from the Internet and you have got it corrupt, then it might be due to some hiccups in the Internet connection. This is known as Packet loss. That means even if you have 99.9 percent of the file, it will not work, as it got corrupted due to some problems in downloading.
Resolution:
Unfortunately, WinZip does not provide any tool or utility to repair the corrupted Zip file. So, in such a case, you have your data in the corrupted Zip file and there is no way of accessing it.
So, to resolve the issue, delete the corrupted Zip file and download the file again. However, if there is no way of downloading the file again, then use a powerful
zip repair software to repair zip file completely and to retrieve all its contents. Such software are available in bulk in the software market. And, choosing one of them is definitely a confusing task. But, always make sure that the software you choose should not overwrite the original data while repairing or restoring the file.
