Overweight ? - Three Steps To A Lighter, Healthier, More Energetic You

If you consider yourself overweight, perhaps you'd like to lose a few pounds or maybe more. If you would like to find out what you can do about it, read on.

First, understand where you are in comparison to the country. It's important to understand what is going on around you when it comes to your personal weight. In this country, as of 2009, nine states reported that 30% of their population was obese, meaning on average thirty pounds or more overweight. Only one state reported that as little as 15% to 19% of its population was obese. All other states reported that between 20% and 29% of their populations were over weight. The country has a fast growing obesity problem.

Consider that in 1994, the first year that all states reported, the range for all states was between 10% and 19% of their populations were overweight. The difference between then and now clearly points out the problem.

The fact that the problem is wide spread is not meant to diminish your desire to lose weight, but rather to demonstrate that some of the problem with personal weight is touching a larger and larger percentage of the population with each passing year.

Step One - The first step to your weight loss is understanding the cause. We all have a basic understanding of how our bodies work. If we take in more calories than we burn, we gain weight, right? This is simple enough. But, today it's a bit more complicated.

We are subjected to chemicals that cause our bodies to be storehouses of fat cells. In the food we eat are flavor enhancers, artificial sweeteners, and other chemicals that reach us through the vegetables, fruits, meats and packaged prepared foods that we eat. There two things at work here. The artificial sweeteners and flavor enhancers are recognized by our bodies as foreign, a possible threat. The body captures these potential threats and stores them in fat cells to protect the body. Then there is the effect of the artificial flavor enhancers. They cause the body to crave the food. Even though sufficient food may have been consumed, the body still craves more. Our appetite on-off switch has been shut off.

Eliminate artificial sweeteners and flavor enhancers from your diet. Read the labels on the foods you consume. (You can request a list of things to look out for later on.)

Step Two - Define your diet and detoxify your body. Change the combination of foods that you eat. For instance, meat has the ability to spike insulin levels, while fruits and vegetables, with a few exceptions, generally will deliver a constant source of fuel for the body and will not cause weight gain. If, when looking at your plate, it's 75% green, 25% chicken, fish, or meat, you're headed in the right direction.

By defining your diet, it is meant that one should understand what foods will cause your blood sugar levels to spike. The objective is to consume food that will deliver a constant source of fuel for your body over a protracted period of time. When foods are consumed in combination to deliver this form of fuel delivery to the body, there are no excess sugars that need to be put into storage. Now the body can look to the fat reserves it has stored away and begin to consume them as well.

This does not mean that you starve, quite literally the opposite. If one eats the right foods in combination, the result will be that one can actually consume more and still loose weight. Result - no hunger and a steady reduction in weight. After a while, eating healthy becomes a preferred diet. The effect is to feel healthy, fit and full of energy.

As the body starts to melt away its fat reserves, it is a good idea to fortify the phagocyte cells, these are cells that go forth and surround foreign substances in the blood and literally digest them. The remnants of the digested foreign substances are excreted into the blood as harmless, inert material. This is important for the reason that the fat cells were formed in the first place, to store excess sugar and also to serve as a storehouse for foreign substances that could represent a threat to the body. Properly fortified, the phagocytes can actually dig out and remove and neutralize these stores of foreign substances before they have an opportunity to become dangerous. Additional emphasis should be placed on detoxifying the body and understanding what can be done to help the body go through this process.

Step Three - Have a nutritional evaluation. Each of the body's organs, glands and body systems should be operating at efficient levels. If a nutritional review spots deficiencies, proper targeted nutrition can resolve the problem. With all body parts and systems in good operating order there is no reason why one should not be successful in creating a healthy, fit, well balanced body.

Additionally, common sense tells us we all need exercise. No groaning. The reason is simple. Our body delivers fuel to the body via the blood. Blood is pumped by the heart. The lymphatic system carries mainly waste products to be expelled. There is no pump for the lymphatic system. It works only by body movement. If you don't move, get the point?

Once one starts this process, it becomes a positive purpose, the purpose of health. Go through the three steps, and for helpful lists to help you through the process, see the author's information box below.

Here's to your health and your reclaimed body!
