Overview Of The Protoss Race Of Starcraft 2

By:

In SC2, the Protoss are a playable race of futuristic aliens. They employ powerful equipment as well as sizeable, formidable troops to defeat their enemies.

I've devised this SC2 Protoss Strategic Guidelines so you can perform well as the Protoss Race. Here you can find all the information you need so as to master the Protoss race.

I regard the protoss to be fairly balanced. It's fairly simple to play Protoss well simply by utilizing Low Tech ground units. It isn't as simple as the Terran's Marine Spam, however Protoss are certainly a great deal easier to perform well with compared to The Zerg.

Each racial option provides its advantages and disadvantages. If considering Starcraft 2 Protoss race tactics, here are their pros and cons:

Advantages:

- Fastest building race.

The Protoss are different in that they dont assemble structures but instead teleport them in from their home planet. To construct a structure, a probe only has to start summoning the structure and can then move on.

The limitation is that buildings have to be placed within the realm of a pylon. With that said, a single probe will be able to build multitudes of buildings at a time provided there's sufficient resources as well as pylon space is available.

- Strong mid-to-late game

The Protoss possess a lot of great late game units and is able to build overwhelming firepower if given enough time to prepare. They can also warp in a whole new army very rapidly via Warp Gates.

- Greatest defending structure.

The Protoss' Photon Cannon is the best automatic defensive building in Starcraft 2. It's the single building that doubles as a detector and a turret against both ground and air units. At only 150 minerals, this structure is able to stop many forms of mineral harassment including other Protoss Dark Templars as well as reapers.

Be aware not to build too many of these though; many players fail terribly at Starcraft 2 Protoss race techniques as they waste excessively upon Photon Cannons and forget to train units! Despite how awesome Photon Cannons are, they're even then motionless which also aren't effective in regards to positioning considering once your opponent knows their position, they can navigate around them.

Cons:

- Slowest starter

This is ultimately the largest weakness of using Protoss. The Protoss are easily outpaced at the beginning. Gateways are the slowest to build and their Basic ground units move slower than other races' ground units like Zerglings as well as Reapers.

Even with Zealots, a skilled micro opponent can kite out of their range with ranged and even speedy troops. Most players consider one of the best Starcraft 2 Protoss tactic is to grab a single Gateway and then the Cybernetics Core so they can squeeze out a fast Stalker.

- Easily harassed

This is attributed to the longer time it takes to start. It's easy for opponents which chose a different race to wreak havoc on The Protoss resource gathering. Zerg opponents can field Zerglings early in the game and attack probes while running circles around Zealots. Note that you could be forced to using Probes to fight off a Zergling rush!

Also, the Terran's Reaper, can bring about major damage to probes in a short period of time.

At present, there's two tactics the Protoss user can perform. He can get a few cannons in his mineral base; the only downside is that producing units and teching up will be slower.

Alternatively, the Protoss user can quickly tech to getting Stalkers (to "tech" is to quickly build structures to train stronger units). The disadvantage to this technique is the player will be vulnerable to zerglings while teching up.

The safest way is to scout your opponent. If you see he is rushing to Zerglings or Reapers, you can appropriately counter it with Cannons or Stalkers.
