My acquaintance Fred gazes at himself in the mirror and feels a pull at his heart. He sees this great hunk of fat staring back at him with a pathetic look on its face that says: "Help Me". Fred tips the scales at 240 pounds. Not at all unpleasant if Fred is 6'2" tall with chiselled muscles. But the awful truth is, my buddy Fred is loaded with heavy fat on his 5'6" frame.

Fred is becoming increasingly frantic because he will have to go to his 10th college alumni class homecoming on December 18, 2011. Fred does not want his college friends to see the 3X version of him after ten years of abuse, particularly a very special, very beautiful, future companion in life.

Just four months ago, Fred hooked up with Wilma again on Facebook (where else?). Mark Zuckerberg makes the growing online romance of Fred and Wilma possible, even though Wilma is working as an artist for an international design company in Singapore and Fred works in Manila as a desk bound accountant. This coming alumni party maybe the perfect place for a marriage proposition. But not if she sees him like that.

"I should have told Wilma the truth about how overweight I am, instead here I am, anxiously finding the best ways to drop weight quickly.", Fred says to himself. Three, short months are all that Fred has, to do it.

But are there really ways to take off weight fast that work? Severe, unproven, and maybe even life-threatening medications, methods, techniques, diets, food supplements, and even exercise programs are tried out often in despair by many chunky people. Almost spectacular claims of getting you to lessen weight rapidly come with all of these. Alas, these could all be put under the category of what a sham sells to desperate people in need of a rapid cure.

Are you one of those? Then halt and face this fact. There are no best ways to lessen weight fast without risking your health. If it took Fred a decade to go from 125 to 240 pounds, what makes you think that Fred could take off over a hundred pounds of disgusting fat in three months and be healthy enough to enjoy the smaller copy of himself? Cancel that thought!

The end should not be to lose weight immediately. Slowly reducing weight and permanently keeping that weight off, is the end. You could immediately lose weight but this would come at the expense of your health. You could stop eating to the point of starvation. You could drop even 20 pounds in a week or double that in two weeks but you will be in on life support afterwards. Your predicament should be faced with the knowing that with persistent efforts and purposeful resolve will you jump-start your war to lose weight.

As with all other tasks and its accompanying difficulties, the proper mentality is your first step to success. It is vital that you undertake this with the guidance of a doctor that you believe in. Depending on your physical state, the doctor will know what parameters to put on your program of diet and exercise. Actually, it is diet and exercise that will determine the weight you take off.

Admit the fact that you will have to eat less. You will even have to modify what you eat. Losing weight is inevitable with the correct eating regimen and proper exercise. But what is most important is to have a vision in your mind to stir you.

This is the picture that keeps my friend Fred motivated. He is all of 140 thin and shipshape pounds, good-looking in a nicely cut tuxedo, with the charming, white garbed Wilma, holding his arm and walking down the aisle. With that picture, Fred is now surely on his way to losing weight.
