Accessorizing with Fabrics

Once you understand that anything and everything can change, be created, or designed in your dollhouse it opens up tons of potential. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. A great example is using linens to coordinate your dollhouse design, and make things pop. Bedrooms are a fabulous place to start. You can coordinate the sheets, mattresses, curtains, pillows, and even a throw blanket. Moving on to the dinning room there is the dinning table cloth and if you are really fancy you can have coordinating napkins. In the bathroom you have towels, floor mats, shower curtains, etc. Now I hope that you can see the unending possibilities that await your linens, cloths, and fabric designs.

Putting contrast in your layout

The definition of a contrast is two distinct or different items that draw attention to one another. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. For the best color contrast look at a color wheel and choose colors that are opposite one another. Using contrast in a room, is like using salt with food, you use to much and you get overwhelmed quickly. A good rule of thumb is if you are going to be using contrast to have one major contrasting item per room.

Styling by Era

When you first started this adventure of making, building, or designing your dollhouse, did you know what style you wanted it to be? Most of us want the furniture, paint, wallpaper, etc, to match and flow together from one room to another. This will be your style choice or theme for your house. When you get right down to it, you might have your choice set out for you as there are really only three major era styles in dollhouse furniture. Victorian is the first major theme, it is recognized by the embellishments in furniture through long curved lines, elaborate fabric, and old fashioned pieces. If you want to stand out or go with a more up to date style, Modern design will give you simplicity, technology, and some great straight lined pieces. The last is the traditional or classical style which will give you a standard look Nothing to fancy or distinct of any era, but useful in filling your dollhouse.

Dollhouse Flooring Options

There is one design item that is looked over more than anything else is flooring. Undoubtedly Flooring is the foundation of your dollhouse, and as such is the foundation for all of your design choices. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. Carpet for dollhouses is very compact and comes in sheets similar to dollhouse wallpaper. The next set of flooring options that are popular are tile, and linoleum - a great touch for a smooth surface and an interesting color. The hardest type of flooring to add is a stone or hard wood option, but in the end these are the best from a designing standpoint.
