An Addition that can make a Big Difference

As you are building and tweaking your dollhouse you will discover some great time saving secrets. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. The wallpaper walls were also trimmed and I was really happy to see that it prevented fraying due to covering the edges. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.

Designing with Linens

Once you understand that anything and everything can change, be created, or designed in your dollhouse it opens up tons of potential. It is absolutely wonderful to be able to craft and design even the minute details of a doll's house. One example is fabrics within a dollhouse. The bedroom is an excellent demonstration of detail and the breadth of items that you can create. Everything from curtains and pillows, to mattresses and blankets can be created and made to fit. Moving on to the dinning room there is the dinning table cloth and if you are really fancy you can have coordinating napkins. In the bathroom you have towels, floor mats, shower curtains, etc. Now I hope that you can see the unending possibilities that await your linens, cloths, and fabric designs.

Contrasting your Colors: Making things Pop

The definition of a contrast is two distinct or different items that draw attention to one another. Using contrast works well to move your eye to a certain location of the room, or in a predetermined pattern. For the best color contrast look at a color wheel and choose colors that are opposite one another. When dealing with color contrast remember that it is easy to over due it and come out cluttered. A good rule of thumb is if you are going to be using contrast to have one major contrasting item per room.

Design Tricks: Apply a Great Wallpaper Pattern Yourself

Once you have painted the interior of an entire kit you will realize the value of covering the walls with wallpaper. Not only will the walls have a cute and distinct pattern, but the job will be done in a fraction of the time. Begin your searching for the perfect wallpaper with a hobby or craft store, and try not to be too overwhelmed as there are thousands of choices out there. If you are looking to save even more time there are wallpaper sheet specifically for dollhouses that are made in small cuts for easy installation. You can also print off your own wallpaper. If you have a computer and a semi decent printer simply make a style that you are comfortable and print out a couple sheets. A great tip is to go to a scrap booking store, they will have sheets cut to your needs with several design choices to fit your needs. So go ahead, create unique, personalized wallpaper that matches your design, furniture, and dollhouse kit
