Outstanding Minuscule Furniture: Layout Counsel

Designing the Outside of Your Dollhouse Kit

Once you have completed your inside design, it is time to look again at the exterior design and some ways to make it look better. The first thing that everybody looks at is the paint and the shingles. When you are setting up your dollhouse apply a good three coats of good craft paint to your dollhouse. When you are applying the shingles first die them and then assemble them with ruler drawn lines to avoid mistakes. There are many other ways to enjoy an attractive exterior; most of them are through accessories like dog houses, or gazebos. There are even tiny additions like shutters and flower pots that you can add. Lighting is another addition that will really help the look of the outside features. Lights on exterior are commonly found on the porch, but you can place them pretty much wherever you would like to.

An Addition that can make a Big Difference

If you are a true crafter you are constantly tweaking your creations. In my last dollhouse building adventure I came across something that I know helped out my interior look tremendously. I discovered the importance of having trim around your floor. The discovery is not entirely new, or my own, there are many places to get doll trim, but I found the cheapest is a very thin flat balsa wood. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.

Choosing the Right Style Can Help Your Design

Creating style can be more intense than what you have previously thought, what era will your dollhouse resemble? When you are contemplating your dollhouse design, remember that you are not just picking a room at a time, but the time frame or era in which they were created. What you want to do is create a theme. Victorian, Modern, and Traditional, though they are not the only choices, are the major players with dollhouse manufacturers - lets look at each one. If you are more of a romantic you will choose the Victorian theme, because it resembles a tasteful past, fluid curves, and astounding furniture pieces. If you want to stand out or go with a more up to date style, Modern design will give you simplicity, technology, and some great straight lined pieces. Traditional furniture doesn't have a lot of pep, but the selection is great - this will fit any dollhouse and can be used at times in matching Modern or Victorian styles.

Placing your Furniture in a Way That Works

Because a doll's furniture is very light you can easily found the perfect arrangement in a matter of seconds. Here are a couple of placement strategies that may be of benefit to you. Two simple layout strategies is first the triangle, and second is the square. In order to use the triangle design you will need three major pieces of furniture for the room, imagine that they form a triangle and place them accordingly. The next example is that of the square, take four pieces of furniture and arrange them so that they make a square in the room. If you have an extra small piece of furniture you can have a five piece square by placing it in the middle. The square and triangle layouts are the most common, but do try many other shapes like an ellipsis, octagon, or even a bell curve.
