Basics of Dollhouse Wallpaper

Once you have painted the interior of an entire kit you will realize the value of covering the walls with wallpaper. It really does save a lot of time to put wallpaper up especially if you have done it before. Begin your searching for the perfect wallpaper with a hobby or craft store, and try not to be too overwhelmed as there are thousands of choices out there. Because you are looking to cover a relatively small area, you should look at getting 1 or 2 square feet at a time. You can also print off your own wallpaper. There are websites that will give you free wall paper prints, just start searching for them A great tip is to go to a scrap booking store, they will have sheets cut to your needs with several design choices to fit your needs. Remember, you learn by doing, so start with something simple and create something amazing.

Lights and Miniatures: The Awe Factor

If you have completed a kit, furnished it, and are looking for another adventure then try lighting. This is the point when you have moved from setting up a miniature house for your kids to expanding this hobby into something more. Lighting your kit can be a fun yet challenging time. At the same time, isn't the challenge why we are in this hobby? Lighting is as simple as a wire connection and a on/off switch. And to add upon that there are great step by step instructions that come with most kits to help you along the way. Don't expect to do it perfect the first time, try it out, make a mistake and learn from it. The best way to start is small, so get a small kit and begin. Remember it is only hard or challenging if you make it out to be.

Designing by Mood

Great designers know that in order to have a good layout and design you need to strive for the appropriate mood. The mood of the room is chosen by the expectations of those that do, or plan to use it. An example is that you would have a kitchen to eat, have conversation, relax, cook etc. A bedroom would have a personal setting to illustrate the mood of that individual and help them feel comfortable. Great dollhouses are no different. To help you get in the mood setting, picture the room and the feelings that emanate from that room, then design colors, furniture, and styles to match that setting. The more you can portray the appropriate move, the more you will convince your friends and family your great skills as a miniaturist.

Placing your Furniture in a Way That Works

Your Furniture can be arranged in many different ways, and many of them will give a different feel to the room. A placement strategy is simply a way of trying things differently to give you the arrangement you want. As there are so many different ways to layout furniture let us talk about arranging by symmetrical shapes. In order to use the triangle design you will need three major pieces of furniture for the room, imagine that they form a triangle and place them accordingly. The second simple design layout is the square, very similar to the triangle except there are four pieces, and they again are placed on the corners of the square. You can also use the square approach with five pieces; just place the extra piece in the middle. The square and triangle layouts are the most common, but do try many other shapes like an ellipsis, octagon, or even a bell curve.
