Other Programs Offered By Nursing Schools

By:

Nursing schools around the world started to diversify the programs that they offer to aspiring health care and aid professionals. Aside from nursing, they opened up other non-diploma courses that are related to care-giving and doctor aids.

Caregivers are variations of a nurse and are typically found serving sick and bed ridden patients at home or at rehabilitation centers. The course offered to become a caregiver does not require too much certifications and examinations as compared to nurses, they specialize in providing attention and assistance in taking care of patients that have stable condition and can be confined at home.

It could take 6 months to two years to complete the training for caregivers. Some schools pattern their teachings to most of the subjects that are also taken by nurses. They call it the "ladder" program which can be continued to nursing if the students' opted to. As for some, becoming a caregiver is a good alternative to nursing especially if they cannot afford the tuition fee for that program. Graduates of care-giving courses can continue their studies abroad depending on the school's requirements and may elect to pursue nursing as well. Salary offers for this kind of job can be as good as the remuneration packages for nurses.

Medical transcription is also one of the other courses that nursing schools offer. Although it is not conclusive that all schools have available medical transcription course, because it is partly covers pharmacy, this has becomes a need for some hospitals and clinics nevertheless, universities and colleges that offer nursing decided to provide a formal course to accommodate individuals who want to become medical transcriptionists.

Qualifying certifications for medical transcriptionists are not as stringent as Registered Nurses board examinations. If local employment is preferred, securing certifications is not a must but for overseas employment, the requirements depend on the country of destination and the regulations for each health centers. Since some of the lessons taught in this program are somewhat similar to the course pharmacy, some schools allow the continuation of the study to pharmacy.

The growing need for individuals who are specialists in certain areas of nursing and health care, poses a great opportunity for students who want to enter the world of medical profession in other views. Other courses offered by nursing schools primarily answers the demand for specific jobs that nurses can do but otherwise would divert them away from their usual jobs. Good thing that there are options to choose and to adapt.
