Other Causes Of Hearing Loss

By:

There have been widely publicized causes of hearing loss. People have been very much educated about these things. However, there are a couple of others that are not usually mentioned but just as important.

Childhood Infections such as mumps causes a lot of children to lose their hearing. The even more difficult thing is that the person who has lost their hearing or the family doesn't usually notice this until much later. There should be efforts exerted towards being more careful when dealing with diseases like mumps. Actively ask your doctor to check the child's hearing too. If it is early enough, something might still be done about it.

Scarlet Fever
Many children suffer from scarlet fever. This could totally damage the ear drum and the middle ear bones. These parts cannot be replaced and once it is damaged, the condition becomes irreversible.

Syphilis
Syphilis may be acquired through sex or through birth. The even more unfortunate thing is that the person with syhilis loses his hearing gradually. Sometimes, three decades pass before the hearing loss is experienced or noticed. This is even more of a reason to practice safe sex.

Just make sure that you test yourself or the child on your hearing because this may still be cured if it is detected early. Certain procedures may be done by the doctor to reverse the condition.

If, however, you are already suffering from hearing loss, remember that wearing a hearing aid is not a shameful thing. If it will help you live better so just do it. It does not have to be expensive. There are quality used hearing aids around if you are really tight on your budget. Check the internet for more information or you may even ask your doctor for referrals.
