If youre having trouble sleeping, then most likely, by now someone recommended you to try an orthopedic pillow. The reasons for this were in the lines of it helped me tremendously, I can sleep like a baby again, or something in between. But, the question is, does this actually work? Or is it just another pillow you spend your money on and youll sleep the same as always, meaning bad?

Why people dont sleep well

Believe it or not, the main reason, besides stress, people dont sleep well is their pillow. Think about it! When you dont have a comfortable pillow, and you need to fluff it as you sleep, and you twist and turn all night long, there is no possible way to get a decent sleep. Most likely, you wake up feeling tired, your neck and shoulders and back hurt, you dont have any energy, and your whole day is bound to go bad. Of course, there are plenty of other medical reasons for improper sleep, but if you dont have a medical condition like insomnia, then most likely the main reason you dont sleep well is your pillow. So, you need to switch to an orthopedic pillow.

How does an orthopedic pillow work?

Not so long ago, orthopedic pillows were used only in certain cases, and a limited number of people had access to them. Orthopedic pillows have a unique design that is meant to support your neck and back as you sleep, keeping your posture. Fortunately, today you can find these pillows pretty much anywhere, with prices ranging from acceptable to extremely high.

If you go out to buy an orthopedic pillow, youll quickly see that there are plenty of models that have various designs, and materials. Most people either sleep on their back, sides or stomach. Orthopedic pillows are designed for all these sleeping postures, so that a back sleeper can buy a pillow especially designed for his or her sleeping position, and so on and so forth.

Choosing the right pillow

As already mentioned, there is an orthopedic pillow for every person. So, before you buy an orthopedic pillow, you should think about how you sleep, and your favorite sleeping position. Once you know what type of pillow you need, its time to go shopping. When youre shopping, make sure that you find something that suits your budget and that cleans easily you want to avoid buying a pillow that will shrink after you washed it.

Keep in mind that you also want to make sure that youre comfortable sleeping on the pillow you buy, so if you can, test it first if one particular model doesnt work for you, choose another one, as there are plenty of options available!
