Orlando Mercedes-benz Drivers May Get Schooled In Rules Of The Road

By:

Beginning in late 2011, Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy will open teen drivers education classes in the United States. The Academys approach to drivers education, which is drawn from best practices throughout the world and features a combination of behind-the-wheel and online instruction as well as interactive classroom training, is in the process of being structured to fit the specific needs of soon-to-be American drivers and regulations of the U.S. Department of Motor Vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz constructed its curriculum based on input from driver education experts from around the world and has been in place in the U.K. since 2009. The program has since seen 4,500 enrollees with great success. Of participants who had already earned their licenses, 79 percent passed on their first attempt, which is nearly twice the rate of the national average (43 percent).

Orlando Mercedes dealers will appreciate the opportunity to work with young clients who have a better understanding of safe driving practices. The Academy designed the program to prepare students for the actual driving experience with more than simple car control maneuvers and an introduction to traffic rules. According to Mercedes-Benz research, current drivers education training in the United States is not sufficient to produce safe drivers.

The importance of training young drivers in safe and proactive driving skills is crucial in light of the frequency of teen deaths due to car accidents. Reducing fatal and serious injury crashes has been a priority of law enforcement officials, regulators, legislators at the national and state level as well as safety advocates and agencies for several decades. To help keep young drivers of Orlando Mercedes-Benz vehicles on the path to safety, the automaker also has plans to collaborate with law and enforcement and driver safety advocates on a public service outreach program to supplement its driving academy.

Mercedes-Benz is looking to put safety in the hands of young drivers, knowing that they are the only ones who can truly take control of their own driving experiences. And the need for extended and more comprehensive driver education is greater than ever. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for U.S. teenagers. The organization also reports that the likelihood of being involved in an accident is increased by a factor of four when drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are behind the wheel.

Orlando Mercedes dealers anticipate that improved drivers education will lead to safer roads for both their inventory and their clients. They also realize the importance of reaching out to new drivers in an attempt to prepare them for a lifetime of safe driving.

Mercedes-Benz saw the trend of more and more high schools eliminating drivers education courses as an opportunity to offer a reliable alternative. Instilling its integrated curriculum with state-approved instruction and training will make the company the first and the only automaker to provide a comprehensive, state-certified driving school in the United States.
