Organize Your Office And Kick Back

By:

Just how bad is your office? Is it stacked full of stuff, papers surrounding the work area. Perhaps the papers overlap. Can you find your mouse under there?

Do you enjoy coming to the office and finding the same mountain of unfilled papers all over your desk. Several inches deep, and maybe higher. Disks here and there, are these disks even marked, or did you use them and put them into the pile intending to label them later.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to find your mouse, the tape, the stapler instead of the papers that overlap everything.

What about your colander, is it on your computer or do you have a desk colander that you can no longer see beneath all of the clutter. Are you sure you are keeping up with the deadlines with all the clutter over top?

What you need to do is de-clutter your work area. Get rid of all of the boxes and stuff that is sitting around. Old equipment that perhaps you couldn't imagine throwing away. You will be surprised at how much stress will be taken off you as you begin to clear the junk.

Your desktop is used constantly. This is not just a place to hold chats but it is your work area, your important files and documents are held there. Your computer, mouse and keyboard are all held in this area. You need to get this in order first. Put the papers and files that need to be organized together. Get them ready to be filed. Throw away or shred papers and paper items that you have no need for. Keep only those things relevant to your work at hand.

Label everything, what good will it do you to file all of this stuff if next month you can't find it. That file that you thought you'd always remember was at the end of the third drawer, where is it? You cannot possibly remember where the files and other things are so organize them and label them.

Get a dry erase board and hang it on your wall. There are few things better to work out ideas on or even to mark important events on. Just be sure to keep it updated. Leaving old items on it means that it will be just as cluttered as your work area. The idea here is not to invent new sources of clutter but to work more efficiently.

Your work area reflects your character and personality. How do you want to be known by your co-workers? do you want to be that slob or do you want to be seen as that together person who is on top of things.
