Organize Your Garage With The Convenience Of Slatwall

By:

Do you ever feel like a mouse in a maze when you're trying to squeeze through all the stuff in your garage? If you're looking for a solution to this problem slatwall could be your answer.

Growing up, my family never had a garage. Because of this, our cars lived out in the rainy Pacific Northwest weather. I often heard my parents talk about how they wished that they had a garage so that they could keep our cars a little bit nicer.

Personally, having visited friends' who did have garages, I was happy not to have one. It seemed like almost every time I'd try to get out of someone's car in a garage, I'd be overtaken with the anxiety that accompanies claustrophobia.

You know how it is. You can only open your car door part way because of all the stuff lining the walls, and then you have to squeeze through a little path to get into the house.

When my husband and I moved into our first home as newlyweds I laid down the law as far as the garage goes. I wanted to be able to walk around the garage with ease, never having any reason to feel an anxiety attack coming on.

Well, little by little stuff accumulates, and that becomes more difficult. I assume this is the case for more people than just us based on my previous experiences and negative feelings towards having a garage. It seemed to me that with a little bit of organizational planning this problem could be remedied.

Have you ever paid attention to the walls at the department stores where you shop? They have grooves in them that make it easy to hang apparel or whatever else the store might be selling.

These grooved walls are called slatwalls, and while you may be most familiar with seeing them in stores, they can do wonders for the organization problems that you're having in your garage. Think of all the stuff cluttering your garage that could be neatly hung up on hooks or nicely organized on shelves.

The only thing you need to be aware of before you add your slatwall is that you should install drywall behind it as a barrier to help prevent potential fires in the garage from spreading to the rest of your home.

With the ability to hang hooks and shelves at your convenience, your days of feeling like a mouse navigating a maze in your garage will come to an end.
