Organize, Declutter, And Tidy Up Your Drawers And Home

By:

Decluttering your home makes it look much better but another big benefit is that it makes you feel much better too. When you decide to organize, declutter, and tidy up your living space, you will need to commit to a new way of life so you don't end up with a cluttered mess once again. When your home is tidy, you know where everything is so you have less stress. You'll also be free of shame and guilt and won't live in fear of guest popping in unexpectedly.

Decluttering doesn't mean you have to get rid of all of your belongings. Even if you did, clutter would return as you began collecting stuff again. Decluttering is more about becoming organized. If your belongings don't have a permanent storage place they are always returned to when you finish with them, you will leave them laying around or stash them in drawers never to be seen again. Next time you need a tool, you won't be able to find it. You'll have a whole house full of stuff yet you won't know where anything is because you have one big unorganized mess. It is nearly impossible to have a smooth flowing carefree life when you live with clutter.

When it comes time to declutter, organize, and tidy things up, you'll find that storage systems are a great help. Even if you don't have the budget to buy expensive organizers, you can still set up a system using boxes. The goal is to organize your possessions in a logical and orderly way and then keep them like that so they don't get out of hand in your storage system. You can use boxes, storage bins, peg boards, and all kinds of gadgets to help you keep your stuff separated and easy to locate.

Think about the contents of your kitchen drawers right now. Are your drawers tidy? Do you know what is inside of each drawer? Most people tend to have one drawer in the kitchen that turns into a catch-all draw that is filled with all kinds of odds and ends. Some of the things are a complete mystery as to their purpose or function. Do you have just one of these junk drawers or are all of your drawers disorganized?

It won't do you much good to run out and buy new organizers if your current drawers are a cluttered mess. You have to undo your mess first or your new organizers will become out of control quickly. Make it a goal to declutter, organize, and make sense of your drawers. Work on them one at a time. Empty a drawer onto the table or into a box. Return the items that belong in the drawer and throw out what isn't useful. For items that are misplaced, put them in a holding box until a place opens up as you continue with your decluttering.

Declutter, organize, and tidy up the drawers in your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and garage. Don't forget the medicine cabinet too. You probably have a lot of drawers and cabinets in your home so don't get overwhelmed at the thought. Just start with the first one and keep going, even if it takes you several weeks to complete the job. It will be difficult at first, but the more you do, the easier it will become. As time goes on, you will find it gets easier to part with items you no longer use.

Once your clutter is gone, you can think about ways to stay organized. There are some versatile clothing and shoe organizers you can buy for your closet. You could use shelf organizers in your linen closet. Small, transparent tubs work great in the garage for storing small tools and parts. When it comes to organizing your kitchen, you will find a whole range of nifty organizers you can buy. These will help you keep your cabinets tidy and your drawers too. You can use these to organize your pots and pans, utensils, and pantry items so every thing is easy to see and find. Organizers can make your kitchen duties a lot more pleasant.

It is a big job to declutter, organize, and get your home looking its best, but that isn't the hardest part. Breaking your lifelong bad habits isn't going to be easy. But it is imperative to do so in order to stay decluttered and organized. Once clutter takes hold, it multiplies like crazy and it doesn't take long for you to get back to the place where you feel ashamed and overwhelmed by your mess.

Make a commitment to yourself that you will stay on top of your clutter. You don't want to do all that work and just end up in a mess in a couple of months again. Make it easy on yourself to stay organized by placing baskets around your home so you can stow things in them quickly when you make a decluttering sweep through your home. It's best to keep stray items in one place like a laundry basket rather than stashing them in a drawer or closet to get them out of the way. Once things are placed in an area other than their permanent home, clutter gains a foothold. Keep them in a basket until you get time to walk the basket through your house and put things where they belong.
