Optimize Your Site for Success

As a regular internet user, you probably have a good idea of what you like in a website and what you dont like. Most people dont enjoy visiting a site that has a bunch of windows and advertisements popup at them as soon as they enter, or one that is so full of spelling errors that its difficult to read the content. These are two fairly basic donts of a website, but knowing exactly what will drive more traffic and convert browsers into buyers is not quite as simple. Here are a few things you can do to improve your website conversion rates with minimal time and effort.

The first thing to look at is the appearance. Think of your website as a job interview; would you wear flip flops to an interview for an executive position with a major law firm? No, but you might wear them to an interview for a tree planting position in Western Canada. Your site should reflect the type of business you run, but should always look professional. Although the law firms website and tree planting companys website should both look professionally done, they should look nothing alike at the same time.

You first impression is very important. Your home page should be clutter-free and your purpose should be clear, obvious and easy to understand. Potential customers dont want to read through several paragraphs to find out who you are and what you do so keep it simple and save yourself some time as well.

Now, think of your desired action. What is it you want your visitors to do when theyre viewing your site? If you want them to make a purchase, click a link or download something, make this very clear. Use large buy now or download here buttons to help them on their way. Make this available on each page so they cant get lost and give up. Making your desired action a simple and painless experience is essential to accomplishing your mission.

Another factor that cant be stressed enough is making sure your site loads as quickly as possible. People are used to quick responses and if your site is slow to load, they will just as soon find another one. Decreasing image sizes can be very helpful. These are just a few simple ways to optimize your site for a more successful business
