Opt-in Email Marketing And Value Statements

By:

Email marketing experts recognize that every email that is sent out is taken as an official communication from the company from which it comes, just as every email that goes out is also seen and taken to be representative of the whole. This is important, especially when crafting an email newsletter, because when you have the attention of your reader, you can help them to see things your way. Ensuring that your opt-in email marketing campaign includes value statements will help your customers stay clear on why it is that you are their company of choice. A value statement, to be clear, should give an accurate depiction of what sets you above the rest. Not only does it need to be completely accurate (you can NOT make these up) but it needs to be something that can be condensed into a simple statement. This could be anything from "four out of five dentists found our brand of toothpaste to be the most effective on the market for preventing bad breath" to "our clothing is the only brand on the market made with 100% locally grown and sustainable fibers". Whether you have around the clock customer service or your product has the longest warranty on the market, you want to be calm, cool, and collected about asserting your point.

Here's what you don't want to do: you don't want to use superlatives that make your claims sound unbelievable. For example, saying that your product is the best ever is...well...probably a lie, and even if it isn't, you're going to have a hard time convincing people of that. If you saw a box of crackers on the shelf called "the world's best crackers" you probably would not assume this statement to be true. While such pompous advertising might not go too terribly awry on a product like crackers, there are plenty of scenarios that would just leave customers walking away either laughing or shaking their heads. Going too far is just as bad as leaving out your value statement entirely. Even if a customer doesn't consciously recognize what is missing, trust us, they will notice if you never made a value statement about yourself. Take advantage of market studies that show you in a positive light- these are a great way to share good information about yourself while having it come from an outside expert source. You might publish such results in an email newsletter, and then condense the results down into a sentence or two to use as a value statement in future marketing endeavors.
