Opening Up The Floor Plan Of Your Home

By:

One way to open the look of a room is to remove any barriers. Sometimes that barrier is a wall or a cabinet and sometimes it is a door. Many older homes are separated room to room by doors. In the old days it was so that you could shut off a part of the house in winter or summer in order to keep whatever part you were staying in more comfortable. So in the winter time, you may stay out of draftier rooms and focus on staying in rooms that have fire places or space heaters. Then you could shut off the other rooms by closing the doors. These days, homes are better insulated and central air conditioners and heaters do a better and more efficient job of heating and cooling.

Since the majority of homeowners like to leave their homes open, doors are no longer an essential part of home design. Builders have begun leaving spaces open, and they no longer place door in entry way or every door way of the home. In fact, the placement of doors tends to be limited to the areas that require privacy, since as the bedrooms and bathrooms within the home.

Although French doors on a formal dinning room look very nice, typically your living room, dens, dining room and kitchen do not require any doors. If you want doors on these areas, for whatever the reason, you may want to go with pocket doors as they can close off a room when you want and when open they hide within the wall where no one is able to see them. This is the perfect way to have an open room, without wasting floor or wall space on a door.

Although pocket doors are great, due to there concealment factor, they are not that easy to install, unless you are doing so in a new construction. When you are installing pocket sliders as a remodeling project you will find that the task is more than you thought you would have to take on.

Since pocket slider doors take up a lot of space in side the wall, you need to account for the width, and ensure you have adequate space inside the wall to fully conceal your door. You do not want to much space, otherwise you will be unable to open the door, therefore it becomes a tricky process. These doors, however, are especially excellent for small bedrooms and bathroom since they save the space that you will need for other room essentials.
